This year’s Fortinet Championship included some big milestones for exciting new golfers on the scene.
Sahith Theegala’s First PGA Title Win
25-year-old California golfer Sahith Theegala took home the victory at the Fortinet Championship 2023, marking his first PGA win. After an incredible rookie year last year, Theegala has now brought home what many golf enthusiasts expect to be the first of many PGA titles.
Theegala won by two shots at the 2023 Fortinet Championship, which took place at Silverado Resort’s North Course in Napa, California. Theegala took control in the final round with three birdies in the first five holes and ended the round with a score of 4-under 68. S.H. Kim came in second place, just two shots behind Theegala. The first-time PGA winner is taking home a winner’s purse of $1.512 million for his victory.
Theegala told the press he was still processing his win: “It doesn’t feel real. It’s probably not going to set in for a while, but man, that was a lot of good golf, and that was some of the most fun I’ve ever had in my life. I had so many family and friends cheering me on, and just the support I have is mind blowing.”
Rookie S.H. Kim Nabs Second
This year’s Fortinet Championship also marked an important milestone for rookie golfer S.H. Kim, who claimed second place. Kim blew past Max Homa, the Fortinet Championship’s winner the past two years, as well as favorite Justin Thomas, to finish in second at 19 under. While Kim didn’t bring home the trophy, second place in the Fortinet Championship is a huge accomplishment for the rookie. Kim is definitely one to watch next season!
