Despite being supportive of an LIV-PGA merger overall, Phil Mickelson still has it in for the PGA. You might think that the newly-announced LIV-PGA merger would have gotten rid of any bad blood between the two golf leagues, but Phil Mickeslon remains unhappy with the PGA.
Mickelson Says LIV Players Don’t Want to Come Back to the PGA
Mickelson recently took to Twitter to explain his current opinion on the PGA Tour, saying, “Not a single player on LIV wants to play PGA Tour. It would require a public apology and restitution to LIV players for paying millions to Clout media to disparage all of us.”
While the PGA has not made any moves toward a public apology to LIV players, it has agreed to a merger with the Saudi-backed golf league, which may help to patch things up between the two leagues–or may create even more animosity and in-fighting. People are mixed on the merger. Some folks believe it’s the only way forward for the PGA and golf in general, while others are disappointed and concerned that the PGA will just become part of LIV.
What Will the LIV-PGA Merger Look Like?
The merger agreement is still very much in its infancy and is still evolving. We don’t know too much about what the merger will look like once it’s fully realized. For now, it looks like the PGA Tour will continue to operate as a nonprofit and will retain control over all PGA events. However, the PGA’s business and commercial rights will be owned by a new, for-profit entity that will own LIV as well. Tiger Woods has just announced that he has joined the PGA’s board of directors, so fans can rest assured that players themselves will have some say in what the merger looks like going forward.
Whether you’re excited about the new merger or need to blow off some steam about it, we’ve got great deals on golf balls for your next trip to the course.
