Phil Mickelson continues to praise LIV Golf, even after countless controversies regarding his loyalty to the Saudi-backed league.
Phil Mickelson Says LIV Golf is Better for the Pros
Mickelson has been making headlines again for praising LIV Golf, this time in a tweet he posted recently. The tweet said:
“Love LIV or hate it, it’s the best way/Tour to be your best in the majors. Enough events to keep you sharp, fresh and ready, yet not be worn down from too many tournaments or obligations. 14 LIV events, 34 weeks left open to prepare for the 4 majors. Fact.”
Mickelson is referring to the relatively less demanding schedule of LIV Golf. Golfers only need to participate in 14 events in the LIV Golf league, which gives them more time between events than the PGA.
As usual, Mickelson got plenty of flack for praising the controversial LIV Golf league, but he is set in his opinion that LIV’s system is the best thing for golfers and allows pros like himself to truly showcase their skills.
LIV Golf – PGA Merger Causes Even More Controversy
While many people disagree with Mickelson’s praise of LIV Golf, it seems that the PGA has finally come around to agree with him. The PGA and LIV Golf have just announced that the two will merge to form a new, not-yet-named company. Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) will be the exclusive investor in the new golf entity, meaning it will have the right of refusal on any new investments.
Many golf fans are upset by this new merger. After following the past two years of the PGA strongly condemning LIV Golf, a lot of fans feel like a merger between the two represents the PGA ultimately caving in favor of making more money. However, PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan told the media he firmly believes that “the game of golf is better for what we’ve done.”
Although many people had negative responses to the merger, Phil Mickelson was predictably happy about it. His reaction came in the form of a tweet, again. Mickelson retweeted the announcement about the merger with the caption “awesome day today.”
