The Accident
Woods was unable to participate in this year’s Masters due to injuries sustained in a car crash in February 2021. The accident left Woods with compound fractures and other bone injuries of the right foot and ankle. These types of fractures are particularly prone to infection and sometimes require surgery in order to heal properly. In Woods’ case, he did need surgery, which he underwent in March.
Investigations have shown no signs of distracted driving or impairment and authorities say that the accident was caused solely by excessive speed. Woods’ car hit a tree at 75 MPH, and investigators speculate that Woods may have accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake when he saw the tree.
Woods’ Recovery So Far
After having surgery at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in California, Woods returned to his home in Florida on March 16th. Woods issued a statement saying that his recovery is going well and that he is “back home and getting stronger every day,” but there is no specific timeline for his recovery and many fans are wondering whether Woods will ever make a full recovery and return to the PGA.
Dr. Robert Glatter, an emergency physician at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, has told the press that it is unclear whether Woods will make a full recovery and stated that rehab will be a long and difficult process.
While a lot is still uncertain, we are happy to hear that Tiger’s surgery went well and that he is feeling stronger every day. We wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him playing in the Masters again in the not-too-distant future.
